Cellular senescence is a stress-inducible state of terminal proliferative arrest accompanied by a hypersecretory phenotype referred to as senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP). Senescent cells can have context-dependent beneficial or detrimental roles in various physiological and pathological settings.
